Working outdoors serves many benefits to our overall health and productivity. Now with the availability of outdoor gym equipment at the local parks, many are eager to incorporate it in their workout routine.
However, users are always advised to be cautious and safe, especially when being outdoors and using the equipment. Here are a couple of things to keep in mind to ensure your safety.

Though they appear new, be sure to check the equipment before using for any loose bolts. This avoids any unwanted incident while using.
Check the equipment
Sadly, not all outdoor gym equipment is regularly maintained. This led to deterioration and unsuitable for use.
It’s important before using any, we must check for any loose bolts or rusty and crumbling parts to avoid a risky situation that could lead to injury.
If you notice your local outdoor gym equipment are not looking their best, it’s important to contact your provider or look into any maintenance service available to you.

Wearing the right clothing would allow you to be comfortable and move better when using an outdoor gym equipment.
Dress appropriately
The wrong clothes could lead to various risks as well as injuries when exercising. Not only that, certain types of fabrics can make you uncomfortable and could ruin your performances during exercising.
When using outdoor equipment where you are required to do dynamic movement and stretching, your clothes shouldn’t be restricted at all.
We suggest wearing clothes designed specifically for workouts and look into the suitable materials.

There are many devices you can use to check the weather before heading out.
Check the weather
Before heading out, make sure to check the weather forecast online. A weather that is too hot could cause your body to overheat while a cold and rainy weather requires you to be properly equipped and move carefully as equipment is slippery and injuries are more likely to happen.
Ideally, we head to your local outdoor gym around 7 to 8.30 am or 5 to 7pm where the temperature in Malaysia isn’t too hot or overly cold.

Danger lurks in every corner if you’re distracted or pay no mind to your surroundings.
Be alert
Working outdoors poses many risks. Not only from the weather and state of the equipment used, but danger lurks; and muggers are present, especially in quiet areas.
Hence, we recommend you not to blast the music too high when wearing your earphones and always stay in visible areas where there are many passerby or cars driving through.
Preferably as well, find an outdoor gym that’s located strategically at the community center or has many visitors so you can feel a little at ease when working out.

With Covid-19 still posing as a threat, it’s important we keep everything clean, even the outdoor gym equipments.
Care for equipment
When using the equipment available to you, it’s important to take some precautions, before and after usage. Here’s what you should do:
Before using
- Use antibacterial wipes or spray to clean all the touch points.
- Sanitise your hands and begin using.
- Avoid touching your face throughout.
After using
- Wipe down the surfaces with towels and wipes.
- Sanitise as well.
- Throw away any garbage left behind and clean your hands with sanitizer or at a nearby sink with antibacterial soap.
Now that you know how to maintain your safety as well as your outdoor gym equipment, we highly encourage you to start exercising outdoors to reap the benefits!
It’s definitely fun, exciting and much more beneficial than being in an enclosed space.
